• Lamport clock — A single counter per process, advanced on events and merged with max on receive, so that a happens-before b implies a smaller timestamp.
• Vector clock — One counter per process; comparing two vectors tells before, after or concurrent exactly.
• Causal consistency — If one operation could have influenced another, everyone sees them in that order; unrelated ones may differ.
